Avista is working with the Washington Department of Ecology to assess and manage the accidental release of a lightweight lubricating oil at its Upper Falls Hydroelectric Development on the Spokane River. Initial estimates are that 50-100 gallons of the oil leaked inside the powerhouse building before it was discovered.

Spokane river wastewater treatment operators plus Avista have formed the Spokane River Stewardship Partners. A just released web site invites people to learn about the coalition and their involvement in river stewardship. The Partners coalition includes Spokane County, the cities of Spokane, Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls, the Liberty Lake Sewer and Water District, Hayden Area Regional Sewer Board, Avista and Inland Empire Paper Company.
