Non-Point Source and Hangman Creek TMDL Implementation Meeting: June 11, 2014

The Bi-state  Hangman Creek TMDL Implementation Workgroup and the Spokane DO TMDL Nonpoint Source Workgroup met on June 11th. Because there is commonality of interests, the meetings were held consecutively as participation overlaps.

Below are meeting notes from each meeting. Also included in the materials is a presentation from Llyn Doremus regarding Nutrient Loading in Groundwater to Lake Spokane. This presentation suggests the possibility of a study to determine if septic systems from the Suncrest area are contributing to nutrient loading in Lake Spokane.  USGS has matching funds for this study. Subsequent to the meeting, Ecology sent out the following update:

“The USGS will proceed with the study with Ecology’s contribution, albeit at a reduced scale. We hope to begin sampling milfoil sometime in July. We are working on outreach materials, etc. to give out to the Suncrest community in the coming weeks. If you have technical questions about the study, please contact Llyn Doremus by email at llyn.doremus@ecy.wa.gov or by phone at (509) 329-3518. Non-technical questions about the study can be directed to me at karin.baldwin@ecy.wa.gov or (509) 329-3601.”
