Spokane EnviroStars Expands to 5-Star Certification

AutoCraft of Spokane leads the way again! In March, AutoCraft was recognized as the first 5 star certified Spokane EnviroStars Business.

AutoCraft was previously certified at the 2 star level by properly managing hazardous materials.  Moving all the way up to 5 star certification means they’re also systematically implementing best business practices in maintenance, operations, purchasing, marketing and employee education with the goal of reducing, replacing, and recycling all wastes.

Two other Spokane area auto repair shops, Preedy’s Tire & Automotive and C & H Foreign Auto, moved quickly to also become five star certified. Several more shops have submitted applications. “Five Star EnviroStars Certification is all about leadership,“ says Laurel Tomchick, EnviroStars Program Manager for King County Local Hazardous Waste Management Program.

Dave Jeffries, owner of AutoCraft and past President of the Auto Services Association of Washington (ASA-WA) Spokane Unit was instrumental in bringing EnviroStars to Spokane in June 2010, becoming the first business certified in the EnviroStars pilot program. Says Jeff Lovell with ASA-WA, “Our role as an association is to help our members and the environment. The EnviroStars program fits right in to our mission statement.”

“In 2011, EnviroStars Certified businesses throughout WA voluntarily spent over $300,000 to improve their equipment, practices, storage or disposal of hazardous and other wastes,” reported Mary Rabourn, with King County’s Local Hazardous Waste Management Program.
