TransCanada Corporation Wants You to Enjoy the Spokane Water Trail

TransCanada has once again stepped up to help our community enjoy our most iconic resource: The Spokane River. A grant provided to the Forum last fall is being used as part of matching funds to build access at Islands Trailhead and support the Spokane River Water Trail. Said Dan Maguire, Environmental Engineer for TransCanada, “The Spokane River is our lifeline, it powers our homes, fills our glasses, inspires our minds, and encourages a healthy lifestyle. It is an honor to support our local non-profits to help our community be safe and keep our river clean and healthy”.

Previous Forum support from TransCanada was used to develop the hugely successful Stateline project that went online in 2014, and cleanup/restoration efforts at other locations. Said Andy Dunau, the Forum’s Executive Director, “TransCanada has been great about helping us cobble together business, individual and government support to bring these projects to fruition. Their grant requirements are a good fit because they want projects that showcase both stewardship and community values.”

TransCanada moves 15 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, maintaining thousands of miles of wholly and partially owned pipelines that deliver to local distribution companies and businesses across Canada and the U.S. Specific to the Northwest, 1,353 miles of natural gas pipeline managed by TransCanada comes into the U.S. along the Idaho Panhandle, makes its way to the Liberty Lake/Spokane Valley area, heads down near Walla Walla, and then on to points south in Oregon, northern California and Nevada.

Their regional office in Spokane manages these and other efforts. With an idyllic view of the Spokane River from downtown, they are reminded daily of why this is a great place to live. Said Maguire, “ I have lived in several different places, including Philadelphia and Portland. One of the reasons I love this area and the Spokane River is the ability to escape into nature just a few steps away from our city streets”
