Getting Our Hands Dirty: A Day on the River with our Friends from ICCU

On July 10, the Forum hopped on the water with a group of employees from the Idaho Central Credit Union (ICCU) to do a cleanup trip on the Spokane River. The trip was provided as part of ICCU’s ongoing commitment to the Forum’s “Adopt a Water Trail Access” sponsorship program. Thank you to Flow Adventures, another great sponsor of our Water Trail, for their help in coordinating the trip and for providing kayaks and PFDs.

As sponsors of the Stateline access site, the ICCU team covered 3.5 miles from this point to the Harvard Road Boat Launch, which you can locate on our website at spokaneriver.net/watertrail/. While this stretch of river looked to be in good condition overall, we found plenty of trash along the banks and in the water.

The team did a fantastic job sweeping both banks, which often involved parking the kayaks and collecting trash for a few minutes on foot. We picked up over one hundred pounds of trash before the day was done.

Additional props to the ICCU team for going over a number of small rapids without losing a single piece of trash!

The Forum cannot thank ICCU enough for their continued sponsorship and support of the Forum, and for taking the time to be great stewards of the river.

Adopting a Spokane River Water Trail access point ensures that this wonderful resource is sustainably preserved and cared for. Sponsors of any of our 19 Water Trail sites receive a plaque at a site kiosk, web page and social media recognition, and an opportunity to participate in annual cleanups like this one! 100% of sponsorship funds go towards cleanup, ecological restoration, and safety projects at the selected site. To learn more about adopting a Water Trail site, please reach out to info@spokaneriver.net.

Additionally, you can check out the regular cleanup events that our awesome partners at Spokane Riverkeeper run throughout the season.

We are always looking for more hands on the river!
