All Hands on Deck for World Cleanup Day

On September 20th, the Spokane River Forum joined 122 volunteers from the community to support Spokane Riverkeeper for World Cleanup Day. In Spokane and Spokane Valley, our amazing community of stewards removed over 9,000 pounds of trash from along the river!
With stations stretching from Liberty Lake to downtown Spokane, volunteers wielded grabbers and trash bags along riverbeds, risking wet feet, twisted ankles, and the occasional patch of poison ivy. Within a few hours, large objects like mattresses, car parts, scrap metal, and lawn chairs began piling up alongside bags full of trash along the Centennial Trail, later to be picked up and taken away by the truckload.
Did you participate in the clean up? Be sure to fill out this survey to help us and our partners learn what went well and what we can do better.
If you missed it this year, don’t worry: river stewardship is a year-long effort. Keep up with opportunities here, or grab your friends and a few trash bags and tell us what you find!
A sincere thank you to Riverkeeper for organizing the clean ups and to everyone who showed up to help us keep the river clean – it takes a community!
