Public Comment Sought for Coeur d’Alene Basin Cleanup Review

Last November, the Forum helped convene the Our Gem Symposium in Coeur d’Alene. With more than 200 people attending, county and city leaders joined with the Coeur d’Alene Tribe to seek more aggressive ways to protect the health and future of Coeur d’Alene Lake water quality. Concerns stem from monitoring showing the potential of heavy metals from historic mine waste becoming unlocked from sediment at the bottom of the lake.

As part of EPA preparing its fifth Five-Year Review of the “Coeur d’Alene Basin Cleanup,” public comment is being sought by the end of Wednesday. Says EPA, “ You may have information and ideas to share about the site that will assist us with this review so that healthy trends in the community can continue.”
