Food Rescue Recognition Program Begins
Food rescue is a great way to help those in need, the environment, and your pocketbook. When restaurants, grocery stores and other food establishments give to hunger relief organizations, they are helping the 16% of Washingtonians struggling to put food on the table. And by composting or donating food to farms for animals they reduce trash that needs to be transported, processed, and disposed. This reduces environmental impacts and helps keep utility costs in check.
The Spokane River Forum has teamed up with the Spokane Regional Health District to recognize food establishments supporting food rescue. Three cheers to our first Food Rescue EnviroCertified businesses: Yokes Fresh Market in Cheney, Grocery Outlet in Cheney, Chick-fil-A, and Sweeto Burrito.
