Getting Ready for Winter Along the River

| Fall is in full swing and we are starting to close shop along our Spokane River Water Trail for the cold season. The gates to our Water Trail site at TJ Meenach Park (a.k.a Downriver) will officially close by the end of this week. We had a busy summer and early fall at the Forum, both inside the office and out on the river. From distributing personal flotation devices (PFDs) to our water trail stations, to leading cleanup trips with our sponsors on kayaks, to partnering with Spokane Riverkeeper to pick up over 9,000 pounds of trash on World Cleanup Day – we did our best to give back to the river. With winter around the corner, our work on the Water Trail will keep going. In partnership with the Spokane University District, we have wheels turning on the Iron Bridge River Gateway Project, which will make a fine addition to our Water Trail stations along the urban corridor. We had great turnout at a community meeting on the project in September! If you missed it, don’t worry — there are still plenty of updates and public comment opportunities to come. Any questions about the project in the meantime can be directed to us at info@spokaneriver.net. Finally, be sure not to miss Riverkeeper’s final public cleanup event of the year: Trash-O-Ween on Saturday, November 1. Learn more about the event and register here. |
