Avista Begins Construction of Upriver Park

Years of design and patience is paying off for Spokane River lovers.

Avista is beginning construction of Upriver Park. Located across from Avista’s headquarters, the three-acre park includes vacating part of Upriver Drive north of Mission Avenue. For flat-water enthusiasts, Upriver Park will provide great connectivity and a place to relax for those paddling the Spokane River Water Trail to and from the Convention Center and U District downstream.

Construction began the beginning of August and will initially focus on reconfiguring the N. Center and Upriver Drive intersection along with tree/vegetation trimming along the east side of Upriver Drive. September will bring utility and earthwork with asphalt removal and the realignment and expansion of the Centennial Trail in the former footprint of Upriver Drive. By October and November the landscaping, fencing, masonry, and pavers will be placed. Construction is expected to be complete by the end of fall.
