Friend of the River, Friend of the Forum: Silver Bow Fly Shop

With the adoption of four sites on the Spokane River Water Trail, Silver Bow Fly Shop is one of the Forum’s most valued community partners. As a sponsor of Aubrey White Parkway, Barker Road, People’s Park, and Redband Park (a full map of the Water Trail can be accessed here), Silver Bow is committed to ensuring these sites are sustainably preserved and cared for while also promoting recreational safety and river cleanup efforts. It’s not only good for business; it’s good for the community.

Last week, we caught up with Silver Bow’s owner and former Spokane River Forum board member Sean Visintainer at the Redband Park site to hear about why access to the river is so important to him.

“By sponsoring the Water Trail, I hope to be a voice for the angling community along the Spokane River,” said Visintainer, an ace fly fisher who has guided trips locally and around the world. “Silver Bow wants to work with the Spokane River Forum to achieve their mission of connecting the community with the river – whether that involves fishing or not.”

Visintainer has played a key role in providing design input and raising money for fishing access sites along the Spokane River since the Forum founded the Water Trail in 2012. The Redband Park site is a great example, featuring a $250,000 non-motorized boat launch that has become very popular among local fishers.

“It’s hard to beat Redband,” said Visintainer when asked about his favorite access point. “It’s a great location, right next to the downtown city skyline and right at the beginning of the gorge stretch.”
