Spokane Water Trail Access at Convention Center Takes Big Step Forward
The Spokane Park Board adopted a resolution, and the Public Facilities District (PFD) has agreed to its terms, that details next steps for partnering with the PFD to develop a non-motorized water trail put-in and take-out at Division Street Bridge, support Centennial Trail improvements, provide shoreline restoration and viewpoints, and install other infrastructure improvements.
In the agreement, Parks and Recreation will take the lead role in moving the river access through final design, permitting, construction and will maintain access in the future. The Forum and other user groups applaud the PFD for paying for the design and agreeing to provide up to $47-thousand dollars to support permitting and construction costs. The Park Board also approved a $30-thousand dollar expenditure to provide better connectivity and signage for the Centennial Trail as it moves from the newly developed Kendall Yards/Veterans Court area, across Post Street and into Riverfront Park. This work is expected to be completed this fall.
“It was a very good week for trail users,” said Leroy Eadie, Parks and Recreation Director. “Riverfront Park is the living room for our community. Supporting gateways that provide easy and safe access into the Park and central business district is a fundamental part of our Riverfront Park Master planning,” he added.
