Paying Permit Fees
There is no application fee. However, state law requires that all permittees must pay an annual permit fee, which is set by state regulation. For the fiscal year 2011 permit fees ranged from $117-$1,829. The DOE will mail invoices twice a year, if the fee is greater than $500 facilities have the option of paying the full balance or splitting up the payment into two equal amounts.
Small Business/Extreme Hardship Fee Reduction:
Small businesses can apply for a permit fee reduction provided it meets the following criteria:
- It is a corporation, partnership, sole proprietorship, or other legal entity formed for the purpose of making a profit;
- It is independently owned and operated from all other businesses (cannot be a subsidiary of a parent company);
- It has annual sales of one million dollars or less of the goods and services produced using the processes regulated by the permit; AND
- It pays an annual discharge permit fee of more than $500.
To apply for extreme hardship, facilities must meet the following criteria:
- It must have sales of $100,000 or less of the goods and services produced using the processes regulated by the permit.
