Additional Information

Asotin County has established the following objectives for waste reuse and reduction:

  • Reduce landfilling of solid waste through waste reuse or reduction
  • Reduce the amount and toxicity of disposed waste, either by avoiding generation, reusing materials, proper waste management of HHW materials, or recycling
  • Support the implementation of waste reduction measures on the national and state levels, and promote such measures on a local level
  • Provide cost-effective opportunities for Asotin County citizens and our waste partners to recycle
  • Collect and process recyclable commodities in a fashion that will enhance marketability
  • Enhance the public information program to increase awareness of recycling opportunities
  • Encourage the recycling of economically viable materials
  • Encourage the recycling of green waste

The recycling markets are forever evolving and changing. Asotin County is committed to providing recycling collection for materials that make sense. Our waste partners also have recycling programs within their own communities.

There are also two private recyclers in the Lewiston-Clarkston area that provide collection of a variety of materials. Refer to their websites for a current list of accepted materials.

Asotin County has adopted the Washington E-Cycle program for computers, monitors, laptops, televisions, and other electronic products. The Asotin County Regional Landfill (ACRL) has a collection site west of the HHW Facility (operated by a state-contracted vendor). The ACRL accepts these materials during HHW Facility operation.

Diversion of used materials from the landfill is also a great way to recycle. Organizations in the Lewiston-Clarkston area that accept used goods include:

Vincent De Paul – 609 3rd St., Clarkston, WA
Goodwill – 3134 5th St., Lewiston, ID
Salvation Army – 1835 G St., Lewiston, ID
Second Chance Thrift – 708 Main St., Lewiston, ID

Residents are encouraged to utilize these organization to donate to or buy from, ultimately reducing the solid waste stream.
