The VetsGarage is a local facility offering support to veterans, but you won’t find any cars inside. This garage, located across from the Spokane County Regional Health District building is more like a woodworker’s heaven, with tools for cutting, carving and sanding. Wood of various shapes and sizes is stacked against the wall and the odor of fresh sawdust hangs in the air.
Tucked inside a small, white building on the corner of College Avenue and Madison Street, the garage is run by the State of Washington Post-Traumatic Stress Program. It offers classes in design, woodworking, composite, casting and wellness in addition to providing help with PTSD counseling. The goal is to create a one-stop shop to assist veterans in succeeding in civilian life.
The VetsGarage is in need of volunteers and donations of wood and money. Other needed items include
- a laser cutter
- a metal detector and
- hand tools.
