General Information

In Washington State, all parts of the cannabis plant (including root balls, planting medium, stems, branches, leaves, trim, etc.) and processed products made from cannabis are regulated.  Disposal regulations are contained in WAC 314-55-097.

In Idaho, all forms of cannabis and processed products made from cannabis are illegal to possess.

Management Practices

In Spokane County, unprocessed marijuana plant waste that is not designated as a dangerous waste and has been rendered unusable per  WAC 314-55-097 may be disposed of as regular trash at the Waste To Energy facility, and North and Valley Transfer Stations.

Product that has been rendered unusable with compostable material per WAC 314-55-097 can be taken to Barr-Tech Compost facility as long as written proof is provided declaring that the material as been rendered unusable with compostable material per Chapter 314-55-097, and the material meets all other requirements for acceptable compostable material.

Barr-Tech will accept cannabis waste plant material as long as written proof is provided declaring that the material as been rendered unusable with compostable material per Chapter 314-55-097, and the material meets all other requirements for acceptable compostable material.

In Kootenai County, it is illegal to possess marijuana in any form.  To dispose, contact any local law enforcement jurisdiction. They will remove the marijuana or products and property dispose of it.

Marijuana business activities in Washington State are licensed by the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB) under Chapter 314-55 WAC and may be subject to additional state, regional and local regulations.  It is the responsibility of every business to check for the most up-to-date requirements, and to know and comply with those regulations so that our communities, environment, and workers remain safe and healthy.

Marijuana is an illegal substance in Idaho. If you need to disposed of marijuana or cannabis products, contact any local law enforcement agency.  They will remove and destroy the material.
