Plastic, Fork, Spoon, Knife, Utensil

General Information

Place in the trash. Do not place in the curbside recycle bin. Examples include: disposable plates and cups, meat trays, styrofoam egg cartons, carry-out containers, compact disc cases, insulation, straws, bottle caps, and tupperware.

Takeout, delivery, and casual dining typically come with single-use disposable plastic serviceware. These knives, forks, spoons and straws quickly add up. In fact, Americans use nearly one trillion disposable food service products each year. To address the cost of this waste, starting in 2022, customers in Washington state will have to verbally confirm that they want single-use items, or they must select items from self-service bins instead of having them automatically included with a food order.
