Do not place High Intensity Discharge lamps in curbside trash or recycle bins. Drop off, free of charge, burned out HID lamps and other household items containing mercury  at a Transfer Station's Household Hazardous Waste site.

General Information

High Intensity Discharge (HID):HID lamps come in a variety of shapes and sizes. HID lamp types include High Pressure Sodium, Low Pressure Sodium, Mercury Vapour, Metal Halide, Ultraviolet (UV), Ultra High Performance (UHP) and Germicidal.

HID lamps are more energy efficient than incandescent lights, but they may contain mercury. As a household hazardous waste, they must be disposed of properly.
