Wooden stumps must be clean and free of dirt. Pressure treated, stained, or painted wood is not recyclable and should be disposed with a licensed vendor.

Clean wood includes wood that is untreated, unstained and unpainted such as: construction lumber, pallets, plywood, branches and stumps that are free of dirt. 

Railroad ties, which are treated with creosote, are sometimes recyclable, so check with the Construction & Demolition processing facilities to see if they accept them. Recycling wood is easy. It can be taken to one of the Transfer Stations Clean Green Drop (wood) off sites or a private recycling company.
