General Information
Styrofoam is expanded polystyrene, also known as EPS or plastic #6. Though it is classified as a plastic and has a recycle number the city does not accept it for recycling. Styrofoam does not go into the blue bin and can not be recycled. It must go into the brown garbage bin for curbside pick up.
Spokane County is the same procedure. Styrofoam must go into your garbage bin.
Sunshine Disposal & Recycling accepts Styrofoam at their transfer stations around the Spokane area.

Safer Alternative(s)
Because Spokane City or Spokane County does not have the resources to recycle Styrofoam, you can think of ways to reuse it around your home. Things that you could do are:
- Cut and mold to fit into a box when sending a package.
- Place pieces into a large planter in place of rocks for drainage.
- Use as a base for a bouquets or other decorative displays.
