Solvent

You Need to Know

Do not place in the curbside trash or recycle bins. Unused solvents can be dropped off, free of charge, at a Transfer Station's Household Hazardous Waste Site. Materials should be in leak-proof, closed containers, with the contents labeled on the outside. No containers greater than 5 gallons.

General Information

Many household cleaning products contain solvents. Solvents are a hazardous waste and need to be handled with care to prevent harm to yourself, others and the environment. If your cleaning products contain the words "Warning," "Danger" or "Poison" they should be treated as a hazardous waste.

Safer Alternatives: Many dangerous household solvents can be replaced with a less toxic product. Solvents with water or soy as a base are often good options.
