Many stores and gas stations have a program to exchange empty 20lb. (5 gal) propane tanks for a full one. The tanks must be in good condition.

Five gallon or smaller size tanks can be dropped off, free of charge, at one of the at a transfer station's Household Hazardous Waste site.
